DISTORTED VIEWS Refuse To Be Preached To

It is rare that a new band will come across the HEAVY desk that almost takes your breath away from the first listen.

That is made even rarer when you throw in the fact that the song is the first-ever release from an up and coming band.

That moment arrived last week when new Brisbane outfit Distorted Views sent in their debut single ‘Propaganda” a swirling mishmash of 90’s influenced Nu-metal music with enough subtle variations and nuances to make it sound fresh even to these aging ears.

HEAVY caught up with drummer Jordan Alexander for a chat about the new single, but first, we asked him to introduce us to this band that has seemingly come out of nowhere, ready to decimate the eardrums of an entire state.

“We’re just a bunch of guys from Brisbane,” he shrugged. “Myself and the singer, or rapper as you have probably seen on the video – or screamer, that’s Cam – we’re both producers. I have been producing in the electronic world and dance music as well with Cam in the hip hop world and producing a bunch of different records for other people so we’ve been involved in music production for a long time. We also have been listening to a lot of metal music growing up and through the ages so we have been smashing metal and loving it! The connection formed; Cam and Andy – who plays lead guitar – joined up and started forming some cool stuff and then I jumped on board on the drums and music production as well and then we got Morgan on bass. We’re a whole bunch of different dudes with aa whole bunch of different influences. This is “Propaganda” for the first taste!”

In the full interview, Jordan chats about the single in more detail, plans for an EP, the eclectic nature of their music, the fine line between imitation and inspiration and where to draw it, future plans and more.
