Destructive Influences with AS I DESTRUCT

“What we wanted to do was really see how our style of music sat amongst everything else”, explained As I Destruct guitarist Matthew Marotti speaking about their debut album From Fear To Oblivion. “We didn’t even know what genre it was but then people started labelling it as melodic death metal. It was important to establish where we sit in the metal industry and see if people take to our style of writing. That was the one thing for us. We know we’re not gonna make a million dollars or play against Metallica but we thought let’s just go out there and see how people find our music and see if there’s a market for us and if there is that demand let’s continue with what we’re doing and keep embellishing on it and come out with more music and more tours”.

In the full interview Matt discusses the formation of the band from the ashes of Quaero Verum, changing the name, the musical goals with the album, how their sound differs to earlier work, what changed in the band to make this line-up more successful, lessons learnt about the Australian metal scene, single ‘A Question of Faith’ and more.
