Destroying Pop Mentality with POP EVIL

Share This:

“I’d like to think so”, replied Leigh Kakaty, vocalist for Pop Evil on the historical link between a band’s best album often being self-titled. “For us, I think it was a pivotal time in our career to step out with our self-titled album. Our name is unique to a lot of people and I think this reflects who we are and how Pop Evil is not about just being in a band or music; it’s about us as people being crusaders of rock. Pop was a bad word where we came from – pop was evil – so it’s not just a band name, it’s a lifestyle for us. For the first time, we have started to know who we are both on and off the stage and we wanted to show our fans that it was going to be a stepping stone album for us to be excited about who we are moving forward into the future and where we wanna take the band. It definitely feels like it’s the biggest record for us thus far”.

In the full interview Leigh talks about Pop Evil’s first ever tour of Australia starting next week, what fans can expect, the reaction to their recent self titled album, whether he fusses over an album after it has been released or puts it to bed, the changes in musical direction, the thought process of playing the songs live when preparing for an album, new drummer Hayley Cramer and more.
