Since their formation in 2021, Wiesbaden-based metalcore outfit ACCVSED have adhered to one principle: presenting themselves to the world authentically without playing a role or sugarcoating their intentions. Channelling their deepest fears and traumas into their music, ACCVSED have created a distinct and energetic blend of bold guitar riffs, unique vocals and raw emotion to shape their music into an unstoppable force.
With their acclaimed debut EP House of Doubt and breakout single Currents, ACCVSED made waves far beyond their local scene, quickly becoming a name to watch in Germany’s heavy music circuit. August 1 marked the next chapter in the band’s evolution – brutal, honest, and untamed. Showcasing their evolution from their most aggressive and unrelenting side, ACCVSED have released their debut album Dealers Of Doom, 10 songs fuelled by anger, their deepest fears and regrets and a fatalistic view on life as such.
To get better acquainted with this exciting new band, HEAVY sent a bunch of questions for the band to answer in their own time. This is their reply.
HEAVY: ACCVSED are set to drop your debut full length album, DEALERS OF DOOM, on August 1. How are you feeling about it?
ACCVSED: We’re feeling great about it. The response has been amazing so far, and it’s just a good feeling to finally show everyone what we’ve been working on for the past 2 years.
Tell us about the album from a musical point of view and what you were going for with it.
We wanted to develop our musical style in comparison to the previous EP. The songs should feel more connected, but still have various elements that differ them from each other. We wanted to go to both extremes concerning heaviness on one and emotions on the other side. We further wanted to establish our style of writing, but expanding our sound palette. So, with the album, we pushed it pretty far I think.
You have released the singles Killer Of Minds, Day Of The Locust and Dealers Of Doom. Are they a good sonic representation of what to expect from the album as a whole?
Those are on the heavier, more aggressive side, for sure! You can definitely expect more of this on the LP, but we’re also showing our softer side on tracks like Make Sure It Hurts or Avoider. If you want the full ACCVSED experience, I think tracks like Senescence or Don’t Let Me Fall Apart are quite representative of our sound as a whole.
How does DEALERS OF DOOM differ musically to your debut EP, House Of Doubt?
There are two big differences. We went all in with heavy tracks like Dealers of Doom, and overall our sound got way darker and angrier. Also, the lyrics got more direct, more personal and angry as well. Besides processing emotional turmoil and traumas in our songs and, you can find glimpses of hate, violence and revolution in some of the tracks.
I love the cover, which features a blurred image of what could be a head, but is pretty ambiguous. It’s striking and highly confronting without actually showing anything shocking. What was the thought process there?
Without going into too much detail, I think the cover art perfectly visualizes our title track, Dealers of Doom. We didn’t want it too abstract; we wanted it to invoke the feeling of something rising. Imminent & dangerous.
There’s two songs on the album that feature outside influences, one of which is Don’t Let Me Fall Apart, which features The Narrator. Who or what is The Narrator, and what does he bring to that song?
We featured our friend Jochi from The Narrator on the second verse of the song. He absolutely smashes those screams and gives the song a whole new edge. The Narrator is a rising metalcore outfit from Germany that supported us in many ways and have grown to be friends over the time, sharing the same passion.
The second is Total Eclipse Of Self, which features Cypecore. Again, who or what is Cypecore, and what does it bring to the song?
Again, Dominic of Cypecore is a very supportive friend, I wanted to have on our record. For this track, we needed something else than a “classic” metalcore feature, so we reached out to Cypecore. They have a mean Melodic Death Metal/Core vibe ,and I think that’s just perfect for this dark, chuggy, electronic song.
As mentioned earlier, this is your debut album. What sorts of things do you discuss as a band going into your first full release?
Well, you kinda have to plan and discuss everything – the songs, videos, artworks, press releases etc. This is our first time doing it, so we learned a lot along the way.
ACCVSED have only been around since 2021, so what was your early vision, and how has it changed since?
When Tino and I started the band, we wanted to push it as far as it gets – that vision hasn’t changed. We always took everything step by step and worked hard for every goal we achieved. While we’re reaching a lot of the goals we had faster than anticipated, we always set our sights on the next thing.
The press release outlines one of the band’s strengths as “staying raw and unapologetically real”. What does it mean by that?
Our message is real. Every lyric we write comes from a place within ourselves. We could not express ourselves right if we weren’t this personal. It just wouldn’t feel right. We’re putting ourselves out there for everyone to see. And the world can do whatever with it.
What’s next for ACCVSED? Do you have any tours coming up?
Later this year, we’re supporting King 810 in Germany and doing Germany and Switzerland with AVRALIZE. We have a couple of awesome festivals left this summer and are planning next year’s shows.
Is Australia on your radar?
Of course it is! There a so many insanely talented bands from Australia that are a huge inspiration. We’d love to tour there sometime.
