Dead Letter Circus are partaking in the Urban Summer Series with Caligula’s Horse, Jericco, Gather, Sydonia and Alithia. The Urban Spread Summer Series is about connecting bands with audiences in various suburbs. It’s a way of allowing fans to catch a great night out and not have to travel for hours to a city gig.
We got the guys from Dead Letter Circus to tell us about one of their craziest experiences playing gigs in the suburbs. Kim Benzie from the band related the following story about a show in Frankston:
“This story doesn’t start out that amazingly but balances out in the end. This young guy who looked like he’d just ticked over 18 came up to me at soundcheck at show in Frankston and said this was his first time seeing us, but he’d nearly seen us before. On his previous attempt he was running late and got to about 100 metres from the show and got jumped by a group of guys and beat up. He said before he managed to escape them and run he actually heard us walk on and greet the crowd whilst the beat down was happening. We were all pretty shocked and pissed off that this had happened to the guy and wanted to try create a better ending to the story. He mentioned our song Disconnect and Apply was his favourite song so we found him in the crowd and got him onstage and explained to the crowd what had went down and that perhaps a sick stage and crowd surf was the medicine needed here. He launched off the fold back into the crowd and they surfed him for the entire song covering nearly the entire room whilst he laughed and fist pumped. It was incredible and when we spoke to him and mates later he said it was one of the best things he’d ever done. It was a fucking epic moment, and it happened in the Burbs!”
