DARK MOFO Announces Night Mass Details

Dark Mofo’s late night offerings have established a cult following over the past nine years, and this winter the annual Hobartian ritual rises again, in a new incarnation titled Night Mass: Transcendence.

Night Mass will lure the faithful into a labyrinthine neighbourhood writhing with contemporary dance, avant electronic, rock’n’roll, misty archways and car bars, DJs, and surprises.

Night Mass: Transcendence welcomes back to Hobart Her Divine Holiness Pope Alice, the enigmatic alien figure embodied by Australian performance artist Luke Roberts over the past four decades.

Pope Alice will be inviting revelers to enter the portal onto their spectacular Planet-X for a celestial rave, initiating a cosmic cast of after-dark DJs and interstellar artists. Each night, Pope Alice will reign over two performances of interactions between angels and zombies, and birds and bats.

Some of the many other art highlights will include video synth artist Don Gray (GB-SCT), surrealist video projections of a reimagined Turandot by AES+F (RUS), and a lineup of more than 30 roving pop-up performing artists.

Some of the many music highlights will include the throbbing electropop minimalism of COBRAH (SWE), the shoe-gaze downtempo tech-house of Nathan Fake (GBR), the agile and unruly techno of  Schacke  (DNK), the queer hip hop lyrical mastery of Cakes Da Killa (USA), and polymath producer, DJ and artist Tygapaw (JAM).

The sold-out, two-night late-night event is always in high demand, but people who missed out on purchasing tickets should check for resales regularly or subscribe to the waitlist for notification if more become available.

And good news for people on the waitlist—limited tickets remain for two of the Night Mass: Transcendence solo shows; the fierce pop-scorched electronic tunes of Lotic (USA/DEU) on Thursday 16 June and the experimental hip-hop duo Injury Reserve (USA) on Sunday 19 June.
