Review by Tristan Peterson

When it comes to metal of this particular style it can be difficult to differentiate yourself, to stand out from the pack. Blast beats, frenetic guitars, heavy riffing and brutal screams are the core of this kind of metal, and it is inevitable that one band merges into another and it becomes a trial to tell them apart.

Cut Up have taken a step out of the pack, whilst remaining firmly in their wheelhouse, with their album Forensic Nightmares. It’s not a refreshing change, mind you, but it is more an exemplar of its ilk.

All the aforementioned staples are here, but the work possess an edge that is quick to get attention and keeps it. At knife point.

There whole album is heavy, grimy and drips with aggression. It’s exactly what you would expect, but it delivers well above those expectations; from the slow, heavy grind of Order of The Chainsaw to the vicious, unrelenting A Butchery Improved, there is not a single track on this album that wouldn’t feel out of place playing over a mosh pit, or at a massacre at an orphanage. It’s an absolute charnel house of an album, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The whole affair is a forceful and belligerent assault that will make you want to break your neck and take a few people with you. The almost grotesque (again, meant in the best possible way) tone is thick with utterly vile and engrossing energy. (Also, meant in the best possible way)

I know it sounds like I’m being threatened by Cut Up to give them a good write up, but the album is great headband fuel and would be a hugely welcome addition to a lover of brutal death metal. I give this album a full recommendation! Play this album at your house party and watch the blood flow.

(P.S: Cut Up, please give back my cat)
