Review by Steve Jenkins

Florida newcomers Culture Killer have brought a unique debut album to the table that is full of crushing death metal and some nasty hardcore attributes.

From the very beginning there’s a gritty sound that enthralls the listener, stomping on the senses with a very grim and dirty groove. It’s hard to pin point the exact sound of Culture Killer, but it sure is satisfying for those who like their heavy music to sound like a punch in the face.

The opening track Blindfolded Death takes you on a path of aggression with a more traditional death metal vibe, focusing less on the hardcore attributes this album holds. The riffs are sludgy yet technical throughout this 10 track terrorizer, with an intensity that furthers on with each song.

There’s a hellish feeling that is felt when Culture Killer switch from a blistering and fast paced assault to a more chaotic chugging that makes for some incredible slam style breakdowns. The vocals are aggressive, ferocious and boldly brutal with a showcase of various styles that compliments the different levels of extreme sound.

This modern take on what hardcore and metal should sound like is quite spot on and proof that it can be done right. Throes Of Mankind is an excellent example on how to blend different elements of heavy music while keeping it real and fresh.
