Bon Scott Statue Campaign

Share This:

DD8 Music, a non profit music organisation has begun a campaign to have a statue erected in Kirriemuir, Scotland, the birthplace of AC/DC vocalist Bon Scott.

Fremantle in Perth has had one since 2008 at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. Scott grew up in Fremantle after his family moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1952 and then to Perth in 1956.

With 18 days to go, DD8 Music started their campaign on May 6th with fundraising site Kickstarter and need 50,000 pounds raised to complete the project. They have commissioned famed artist John McKenna to sculpt the statue. So far a third of what is needed has been raised.

Although no one from DD8 Music has approached any members of AC/DC, his former band mates are helping bring awareness to the cause by posting details on their website a few days ago. Graham Galloway from DD8 told BBC “They don’t just put anything up there, so it’s certainly a big step forward for us in getting worldwide support for the statue.”

Kirriemuir already has a street named after Scott and hold a music festival in his honour known as Bonfest. In 2006, a stone slab was placed across the road from the local museum.

For more details go to the Official AC/DC website or the Kickstarter campaign.
