Beyond The Darkness: Benefit Concert For The GI Cancer Institute is almost upon us, with an awesome line-up of bands set to descend on The Back Room in Annerley on Saturday, September 16.
Headlined by Brisbane metal monsters Diskust, entertainment will also be brought to you from Krave, Dirty Brew, The Crypt Daddies, Depuration and We The Hollow.
The following statement from one of the people behind the event, Dexx Roxx, outlines the reasons behind and the importance of Beyond The Darkness.
“In February 2021, My Partner’s late husband, Dave Dash Green was diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal cancer. They went through the usual journey of chemo, radium and surgery. They got out the other side and went into remission. Unfortunately, he ended up getting secondary cancer, and he lost his battle on 22 February 2022 at the age of 47.
Beyond the Darkness is being held to raise money for the GI Cancer Institute. Jackie & I wanted to bring together our paths of metal music and taking a tough outcome and giving back to help those that now face that same journey.
Since 1991, GI Cancer Institute has been committed to changing outcomes for people fighting gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer, undertaking research to improve patient care and medical Practice. Research has:
– Been integral to worldwide changes in medical practice in a number of GI cancers: oesophageal, colorectal and gastro-intestinal stromal tumour cancers
– Provided patients with new cutting edge treatments and high care support not otherwise available
– Led trials in the treatment of stomach, rectal and anal cancer, and
– Established surgical guidelines in Australia for pancreatic cancer.
The metal fraternity has been by Jackie’s side since the beginning, and we also want to give back to them by putting on a killer show.“
