Cross-dressing Aussie kawaii-metalhead Ladybeard’s new group BABYBEARD has just released the music video for their second single PIENNIZER.
‘Pien’ is the Japanese name for the wide-eyed, sad emoji:
In recent years, the youth of Japan have begun saying “Pien!” to express sadness caused by small disappointments or inconveniences. For instance, if you stub your little toe on a door frame, you can say “Pien!” If you get a stain on your favourite outfit, you can say “Pien!”
And if you hang up your laundry to dry and then suddenly it starts to rain, you can shout at the top of your lungs….
“PIEN!!!”
But you need not get too upset, coz tomorrow is a new day. So smile, baby!
With guttural screams layered over adorable female vocals to catchy Eurobeat-metal, the song is another banger from Takashi Asano, songwriter of Nippon Kara Konnichiwa. And the music video, shot in and around Tokyo’s famous Harajuku district, is hands down the most colourful video of 2022!
