Pop punk is emblematic of the teen struggle for individuation. Yet the music itself marches in disciplined ranks, each band appearing near identical in spite of its message. Authority Zero plucks three-part harmonies from Bad Religion and zips along with the boppy optimism of Jimmy Eat World, delivering warm n’ fuzzies via sing-along single For The Kids. The Arizona boys rinse Rancid through a ProTools cycle pulling crisp bass bumbles and straight-armed power strums out the end. Lilting melodies filter through a Weezer-y Struggle and ska blooms about Today We Heard the News: both piecemeal islands bobbing in oceans of recycled, recently vintage pop punk.
