A Decade of Stargazing with AUGUST BURNS RED

Listen to the interview below or on Spotify and iTunes Podcast:

August Burns Red return to Australian shores in October and will celebrate the tenth anniversary of third release Constellations by playing the album in its entirety.

As keyboard player Dustin Davidson reflects on that album and the arc the band has followed since he can’t help but laugh when asked what the band has learnt in the ten year period since Constellations came out.

“A lot!” he exclaimed. “It’s crazy to think about what we’ve learnt as a band. A lot has changed since then. Back then touring was relatively new to us, we’ve gotten so much more experience under our belt and honestly just become closer to each other. We knew how to push each other’s buttons and we knew how to overstep those boundaries that we had between each other so we have really grown. We spend so much time together we know how to handle certain situations or push buttons or don’t push buttons whereas back then there was a lot of button pushing (laughs). I think it has something to do with age and not being as disciplined but that’s the main thing I can think about is how much we’ve grown as a band. I’m extremely close with all these guys – were like family – we spend six months together throughout most years so we have grown a lot together”.

In the full interview David further discusses Constellations, the difficulties in playing an album front to back, the thought process that went into the album following the breakthrough success of previous album Messenger, how Constellations has stood the test of time, what makes a song or album timeless, what advice he would give himself if he could go back those ten years, the new album and more.
