[ALBUM REVIEW] ROYAL HUNT: 2016

Share This:

Join the celebration of Royal Hunt‘s 25th Anniversary!

Following the tradition of two successful DVD releases – “1996” and “2006” – it´s time for a third one: “2016”. Recorded with 9 HD cameras and top-notch audio equipment in Moscow´s “Izvestiya Hall” during the band´s last year´s world tour the video shows “all-fab-things-Royal”: high energy show in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd, excellent set list, the band in top form.

Formed in 1989 and originating from Denmark Royal Hunt have an incredible back catalogue of 13 studio and 5 live albums under their belt. Now with classically trained vocalist D.C.Cooper back in the fold, the band are once again releasing a huge slab of progressive, symphonic metal to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

If you are a fan of this genre, then this huge album and DVD release will not disappoint. Cooper’s soaring vocal lines intertwine perfectly with the huge keyboard and synth parts played majestically by André Andersen. Then you have the intricate guitar and bass lines backed by some solid drumming.

Each song is a musical masterpiece in its own right and the more you listen the more you get from it. On the other hand, you can simply rock out to the great metal tunes.

Royal Hunt have put together a compilation that shows off the band at its very best.

“Wasted Time”, “River of Pain”, “Half Past Loneliness” and “A Life to Die For” are for me the stand out tracks, showing the band at their very best. If the video release of “Wasted Time” is anything to go by the rest of the DVD set will be another sure fire hit for the band.

Royal Hunt’s “2016” album and DVD set will be available on Frontiers SRL from the 12th May 2017.
