[ALBUM REVIEW] KOBRA AND THE LOTUS: Prevail I

Three years have passed since Kobra and The Lotus released their last studio album “High Priestess”. This time has been extensively used and so the Canadians with three albums in the bag already and worldwide tours with artists such as Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Delain and Demon Hunter. Kobra and The Lotus have now reached the most important point of their careers in terms of musicality and songwriting.

Produced by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Epica …) and mastered by Grammy-winner Ted Jensen, Prevail I includes compelling songs like ” You Do not Know ” and ” Light Me Up “, which will soon be classics in their own right and the band undoubtedly will have their well-deserved place at the top of the Heavy Rock tree. Kobra And The Lotus have made use of their zeitgeist and are now delivering their most impressive album in Prevail I, which in the not too distant future, will have a sequel in Prevail II.

This is not an album of love songs, its dark, moody and full of angst. Hitting you right between the eyes and yet, at the same time you are lifted to a feeling of hope at the end, a real rollercoaster of a journey.

We hear massive guitars, drifting rhythms, and catchy singing lines, clearly based on the vocal talents of charismatic front-woman Kobra Paige. who leads the audience on a sound journey through light and shadow.

I thoroughly enjoyed this LP and look forward to catching them live … we will be in for one hell of a ride.

It’s a huge 5/5 from me.
