[ALBUM REVIEW] HAMMERFALL: Built To last

Share This:

Swedish power Metal titans Hammerfall don’t need an introduction, they’ve been going strong for over 20 years and their latest offering “Built To Last” shows that there are no signs of them slowing down.

Kicking off with the aptly titled Bring it!,  the band proves they are in fine form with the soaring vocal melodies from Joacim Cans and the dual guitar attacks from Oscar Dronjak and Pontus Norgren. These are perfectly complimented by the flurry of double pedal madness from drummer David Wallin (taking over from previous skin-beater Anders Johansson) and the bottom end bellowing bass work from Fredrik Larsson.

Clocking in at 47 minutes the album doesn’t slow down save for the dramatic power ballad Twilight Princess and album closer Second To None. Other than those two tracks it is full steam ahead with one of the standout tracks being The Star Of HomeIt’s a perfect example of what makes power metal great; the up-tempo double pedal rhythms, chugging guitars, dramatic lyrics and that infectious sense of fun that can be found in the best of the genres offerings.

By the time you reach the end of the album, you can safely say that Hammerfall are indeed BUILT TO LAST!
