Norwegian black metal duo Mulm — formed by Kvalvaag (Kvalvaag, Astaroth++) and Atyr (Nattverd++) — has signed with Khaoszophy Productions for the release of their debut full-length album Utyske, out now. The project began four years ago and has since taken shape as a focused artistic vision. While firmly rooted in traditional black metal, Mulm emphasizes melody, atmosphere, and dynamic contrasts over speed or technical display.
Much of the inspiration comes from the forests and nature, where both members have spent countless hours. This connection to nature shapes Utyske, which blends raw energy with a timeless, organic feel. The production reflects the same approach: minimal compression was used to preserve a natural and dynamic sound.
The album title, Utyske, reflects the record’s lyrical and musical themes. An archaic Norwegian word, it once described something foreign, frightening, or monstrous — often linked to unknown beings in folklore. In this context, it evokes a primal and mythic presence deeply tied to Norway’s darker heritage.
