DIESECT: ‘Hide From The Light’

Label: Greyscale Records

Release Date: 30 May, 2025

Strap in, it’s a dark f**kin’ ride!’

Brissie’s own DIESECT have dropped their third EP, Hide From The Light, and this time they’re backed by the heavyweights at Greyscale Records. It’s their most unhinged, emotional, and polished work to date, a concept EP that dives headfirst into the deep end of despair. We’re talking full tilt, no lifejacket.

This ain’t just a bunch of heavy songs chucked together – it’s a bloody narrative. The story follows someone slowly giving up on healing until they just say, ‘Nah fuck it‘ and let the darkness swallow ’em whole.

Uplifting? Nah. Honest? Fuckin’ oath. Let’s take this journey track by track – from flickers of light to total emotional blackout.

HIDE FROM THE LIGHT

The opener sets the stage like the opening scene of a horror movie, you know something’s off, but you’re not sure what yet. It’s moody, bleak, and layered with eerie tension. It’s the first warning sign: you’re about to get fucked up emotionally. Feels like staring into a storm cloud and thinking, ‘Yep, that’s comin’ for me.’

TOO MANY SCARS

This one’s already turned heads, an absolute fuckin’ ripper. It explodes like a busted can of Bundy in the sun. Chaotic, glitchy production, punishing riffs, and vocals that sound like someone screaming into a mirror after three sleepless nights. It’s the point where you realise healing’s not going too well. Kicks you straight in the trauma.

PRETTY MUCH DEAD

No metaphors here, the title says it all. This track is a funeral march for motivation. A brutal, stomping declaration of emotional exhaustion. There’s a sense of numbness here, buried under breakdowns and distortion. It’s like screaming, but no one’s fuckin’ listening – and you’ve kind of stopped caring.

SHURA

The second single and easily one of the most deranged. This one’s a fuckin’ blender of chaos and melody. It’s unstable, uncomfortable, and perfectly represents that turning point where you’re not just broken, you’re starting to enjoy the spiral. Like, ‘Yeah, life’s on fire, might as well dance in it’.

THERE WAS NEVER LIGHT

If you were holding out hope for some sunshine, tough luck, this track snuffs it right out. It’s bleak as dogshit and hits like emotional sandpaper. Vocally, it’s gut-wrenching. Instrumentally, it’s like someone took a sledgehammer to your soul and tuned it in drop Z. It’s a reminder that maybe there was never any fuckin’ light in the first place.

SUFFER IN THE DARK

The final nail in the emotional coffin. This one mirrors the opening track, but now there’s no doubt – you’re in the fuckin’ dark, and you chose to be. It’s slow, suffocating, and heartbreaking. You can hear the defeat in every note. It’s like the EP sits you down, pats your shoulder, and says, ‘This is what happens when you stop fighting.’ Absolute devastation – and it’s bloody brilliant.

This is the sound of a band who’ve levelled up, emotionally, sonically, and professionally – and they’re not fuckin’ around. Greyscale backed the right horse here. If you’re not on the DIESECT train yet, you’re gettin’ left behind in the dark.

Fave track? Depends how depressed you feel on the day.

Rating? 666/10.
