GRUB is a one-of-a-kind Walyalup/Fremantle-based rock band that combines fun and loud instrumentation with personal, raw, and honest lyrics. A favourite within WA’s live music scene already, performing all around, including shows supporting Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Southern River Band, Kill Devil Hills, and Full Flower Moon Band, the group are proud to announce the release of their poignant and punchy debut single Ghost – out now.
Lead by powerhouse Matilda Beales (songwriter, singer, guitarist) and backed by local legends Duncan Strachan (guitar and backing vocals), Mitch Macdonald (guitar and backing vocals), Edo Ekic (bass and backing vocals), and Peter Bibby (drums and backing vocals), the band are influenced by the sounds of Viagra Boys, Idles, Peep Tempel, and AC/DC, writing songs that are inspired by “personal stories, trauma and mental health”.
Starting out with atmospheric and haunting screeches, Ghost seamlessly transitions from eerie and inmate to grungy and un-worldly with the introduction of punchy drums, rumbling bass, and distorted guitars, whilst Matilda’s spine-tingling vocals hold the listener at centre focus, guiding and grounding throughout the track’s duration.
