[ALBUM REVIEW] BORIS THE BLADE: Warpath

Share This:

It sure is a great time to love the heavier side of the metal world in Australia at the moment. Over the past few weeks we have had some amazing releases from bands like Naberus, and now we get this sensational new album from Melbourne band Boris The Blade. Yes, Warpath is such a great little album that you will find yourself scouring the gig guides to see when you can go and see this band live next… they just have ‘my favourite band’ written all over them.

Warpath is not an album for the faint-hearted – it’s brash, brutal and contains lyrics that might actually make you think… everything you want in a heavy album when you come to think about it. Opening track Warpath slightly hints at Boris The Blade’s ‘technical’ side with a definite trace of an electronic sound at the beginning, but it then gives way to an absolute onslaught of sound and some amazing vocals from Daniel Sharp.

Backstabber sees guitarist Cameron Eyre step into the limelight as he takes a shot of brilliantly leading the wall of sound that is Boris The Blade. While the clean vocals on this track do sound a little like Korn that quickly dissipates when Sharp once again reaches full flight. Boris The Blade are a band smart enough to know an album like this doesn’t work if everything sounds the same, so the band mixes things up remarkably well. Omens contains interesting spoken word parts, while Thorns and Devastator both contain slowed down sections that really bring a great atmosphere to the album. The latter seriously challenges Solace as the best track on the album.

Boris The Blade show with Warpath that they are another Australian metal band that are ready to take that next step and reach international stardom. Their sound is amazing, and Daniel Sharp is a world-class vocalist. This is one of those albums I just know I’m going to listen to for ages to come and I can only hope that soon the rest of the world discovers Boris as well.

4/5 Stars.
