New South Wales rock outfit Ballz n All unleashed their debut 4-track EP 46 on New Years Day.
The guys have sent me one of the tracks called 8 Ball as an introduction to the band, which we gleefully threw straight onto the player.
A tasty guitar riff offers the first glimpse into what to expect, and when it is joined by a blues-infused slide guitar sound I find myself eager for more.
Sweat-soaked and beer-swilling vocals soon add to the mix and Ballz n All are in full flight.
When I say full flight, I mean as a productive unit.
The music here is more laid back and measured, kind of like a stripped-back Sunday afternoon pub session-type song.
A wicked guitar solo rears its spectacular head around the two-minute mark, adding starch and spice to the song, which is not too dissimilar to early AC/DC songs like Big Balls. Even the vocals have that kind of flavour to them without sounding too much like a rip-off.
Overall, a tidy blues/rock number that shows enough promise of everything to warrant a listen to the EP’s remaining three songs.
