Swedish atmospheric black metal outfit, Murg have released a follow-up to 2015’s Varg & Björn with Gudatall. The eight tracks take you on a journey that only gets deeper and darker as it progresses. Title track Gudatall opens the album on a peaceful note, letting its listeners soak up the atmosphere while making way for the blast-beats and thick riffs to come. The eerie vocals awaken demons on next track Sorgeblot i gångarna; a quick pause is issued for effect until a pile of riffs strikes down with fury. Headbanging will succumb to all that listen in on what these Swedes have to offer here.
Djupt ner, där frosten inte biter is a stand-out, starting with elements of a dark country song. The infectious riff leaves its mark on the fellow listener. Satanic blues are sung beautifully and one can easily get lost within the devilish soundscape.
Ending with the ferocious Törstens kval, Murg leaves no stone unturned. The album grows on you and must be listened to in full to be truly absorbed. If one doesn’t find themselves lost in this fine musicianship of black metal, they have either forfeited that advice or have tuned out. Tune into Satan’s frequency, it reads Murg: Gudatall. \m/
