Hard hitting Brisbane rock outfit PistonFist are riding the crest of a musical wave.
Over the last twelve months the band has released two cracking singles in Rise Up and Resent The Day, as well as played at venues and festivals covering from as far North as Cairns to as far west as Alice Springs.
Through a tireless work ethic and balls to the wall tunes, PistonFist have not so much as wished for people to get into their music as they have bludgeoned them with wave after sonic wave of intent.
Today the band releases their new single Dig In, another track cut from the working class ethos of PistonFist, but tarnished with a slightly heavier brush.
Front man Geoff O’Leary sat down with HEAVY to bring us up to speed.
“We’ve been doing a lot of different stuff in the past,” he began, “where we’ve gone from our very earlier songs which were written mostly by Wazza – big shout out to him – but he had a very rock background so our last few songs like Home and On The Run were a little bit more rocking than Dig In. Dig In‘s definitely got a bit more of a metal influence. I wrote most of Dig In, myself and Damo, and Jimmy put his parts over the top and filled it up nicely. It’s definitely got a bit more of who we are about it. We’ve started to not try to do things and just do things that feel natural. We’re not gonna try to sound like this or sound like that, we just want to sound like us and do what we do. Even Rise Up was a little bit more of who we are – and Resent The Day. The last three releases have been much more who we are and what we are about. We had a ball writing it, it came together really easy.”
In the full interview, Geoffro takes us through Dig In in greater detail, talks about finding the PistonFist sound, the lyrical content of the song, their upcoming debut album and what to expect, appeaaring on BlokesWorld, playing Blacken Open Air, making the most of your opportunities, the new band members, future shows and more.
