There’s a few cd manufacturers out there that aren’t too happy with Swedish mystery doom metallers Ghost.
The release of their long awaited second album ‘Infestissumam’ has been pushed back by a week due to a handful of manufacturers in the U.S having issues with the imagery of the artwork.
The artwork in question depicts a nymph orgy but it wasn’t the subject of frolicking nymphs in lustful sexual throes that has upset a reported four manufacturers, its the religious iconography of an inverted cross with an upside down Jesus that has them in a sacrilegious uproar. We’re guessing they’ve never seen a Deicide cover or any countless other death metal covers.
The drawing is said to be inspired by 19th Century French artist Gustave Doré who has been the inspiration for cover art for other metal bands from Asphyx, Candlemass and Iced Earth.
The cover was intended for the deluxe version of the cd and now the band have been forced to come up with an alternative so as to not further delay matters. They have now chosen to go with the artwork that is being used for the standard cd for both cd formats. The vinyl pressings (as these were printed by different manufacturers ) and European release will still show the originally planned piece.
A source for the band told Spin.com “The artwork was meant to provoke some sort of thought, but it’s been one obstacle after another.”
Infestissumam will now be out in mid April through Loma Vista Recordings
