Canadian band Words Like Wildfire release “The Rain” as the first track as part of their upcoming EP Classic Tragedy. The opening song of the three-part video trilogy is a collaboration of musical melodies and real-life experiences. Drawing on life trauma, through the decline of mental health resulting in addiction and substance abuse accentuated through the 5 stages of grief.
“The Rain” is based on a true story with a factual indication of hardships that people face daily, whether it’s through addiction, mental illness, or heartbreak and lays out the very real struggle with mental health and drugs/addictions. Often times, all it takes in one time to develop an addiction and dependence.
Lyrics such as “I’ll have you know I’m a mess” and “how could you ever kill this loneliness” is an accurate depiction of feelings that are consistent with that of mental illness. Drug addiction is a growing phenomenon worldwide and can be closely tied to concurrent mental health disorders.
