Safe Hands – Tie Your Soul To Mine

Previously a world-class (and I don’t throw that term around lightly) math hardcore band, Novocastrian gentlemen Safe Hands have reinvented themselves as an exemplary post-hardcore band reminiscent of Emery and La Dispute on their latest record, Tie Your Soul to Mine. That sentence doesn’t really depict their sound in any kind of meaningful way, of course. I’m just trying to give you a ballpark idea of what you’re in for.
Standout tracks The Great Affair and Pushed to the Moon are some of the most dynamic and exciting post-hardcore tracks I’ve heard in years, and while closer Wagtails may not reach the heights of the title track closer of Safe Hands last record, Montenegro, nothing realistically could. That track is perfect in every way.
Long story short, this is the first step on the journey of a really exciting young band’s new direction, and they belt it for six. It’s like when you first emerged from the Kokiri Forest in Ocarina of Time and, after that freaking owl stopped babbling, you ran out onto Hyrule Field and just went “whoa…”. Same deal.
Great album. Buy it, you cheapskate.
