Nucleust – Resistivity EP
Rockpit Records
Released: 26 August 2016
Review By: Dave Griffiths
If you haven’t already jumped on board with Perth band Nucleust then now is the time to do so, because they are about to hit the big time. Their first EP gained them a fanbase in Indonesia then they backed up that by touring with the metal Gods we mortals call Soilwork.
Now comes the all-important follow-up. Their brand new Resistivity EP more than shows that this is a band heading in the right direction. On the opening track, Fear The Fearless, frontman Shannon Marston explodes with brutal forceful vocals that eventually give way to a slower, more melodic, almost doom sound that shows that this is a band that is very confident to do things their own way… and so they should because it sounds amazing.
Tanbur is a short middle eastern sounding, almost The Tea Party-esque, instrumental which eases into Of King And Tree, which is a mass of beautiful noise driven by intense drumming that really makes the song feel like it is crashing down over you. The EP then closes out with Faith By Sword, a piece of full-on brutality that leaves you wishing the EP was more than four tracks long.
Resistivity is an EP that tells us what some of us already knew. Nucleust are the next big thing in Aussie metal and this is just the release that is going to get them here. All hail Nucleust’s brutal sounds of the west.
