I AM DUCKEYE: HUSBAND

Share This:

After releasing five EP’s, Melbourne’s very own iconic punk pranksters, I am Duckeye, have unleashed their debut full length album, Husband.

With some killer riffs, crazy vocals and such an amazing over use of the urban thesaurus, it’s an awe inspiring release!   The first song sets up the album perfectly; both musically and lyrically. It kicks off into a thundering riff that feels like Helmet on speed. However I’m not sure if the song Swhale is using a sperm whale as a metaphor for sex or if the story teller actually did take a whale to show and tell.

There’s more than a little madness to I am Duckeye but that’s what you love about them; massive sounds, great lyrics and all the while completely entertaining.   Their sound is Slayer meets Helmet meets Melvins meets Pee Wee Herman’s evil doppelganger that grew up in the early ‘80s UK punk rock scene listening to the likes of GBH and The Exploited.

Lyrically there’s something for everyone covering topics from sperm, tea baggin, balls, sperm, ya mum, ya dad, corking, balls, masturbating, sadistic nun’s, punching dicks, oh and a love song just for the ladies, Ung, with heartfelt lyrics like “I love boobies”.   You do forget though what they’re singing about at times as the music is just so kick arse but then you hear something like “start lickin’ my balls” and a smile erupts on your face. These guys are out there and there’s no doubting it but they can also write some seriously massive riffs and Hulk like songs. They are beastly and gorge themselves feverishly on all your senses.

This is a great album not to be undermined by the previously mentioned topics although everyone should appreciate the level of Mr Bungle type skill of how well they’re constructed. Yes, they clearly don’t take themselves too seriously but on the flipside they take their music very seriously and this is an album that should be in everyone’s collection at least twice.   I am Duckeye’s Husband is out now with the official launch Friday 5 July at The Cherry Bar with The Berkshire Hunting Club (Sydney) and Sheriff (Melbourne)
