Review by Rod Whitfield

Blues based hard rock has been done to death over the last 40+ years, and so it’s next to impossible to break any new ground in the genre. Black Stone Cherry are no exception, but they do it rather well nonetheless.

The bands that stand out in this scene these days are the ones that inject a little r&b and boogie into their sound, and that’s exactly what Black Stone Cherry do. There are horns, female vocals and even a cover of a classic soul hit (War, as in ‘What is it good for?’) to enhance the hard edged guitars and slammin’ four on the floor drums.

Of course, bands like this need a great singer with excellent pipes, and they have exactly this in Chris Robertson. He has the range and the vocal swagger to match most of the vocalists in this scene.

If you dig bands like AC/DC, Buckcherry and The Answer, this album is sure to rock your boat.
